Under standing Periodontitis and Tooth decay

Understanding: Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a severe gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth. It usually starts as gingivitis, causing swollen, bleeding gums. As it progresses, pockets form between gums and teeth, leading to more severe symptoms like loose teeth, bad breath, and even tooth loss. It's often caused by poor oral hygiene, smoking, genetics, or certain health conditions. Treatment involves professional cleaning, scaling, root planning, antibiotics, and sometimes surgery to restore gum health and prevent further damage

Understanding: Tooth Decay.

Tooth decay, also known as dental caries or cavities, occurs when bacteria in your mouth produce acids that erode the hard outer layer of your teeth (enamel). This erosion leads to the formation of small holes, or cavities in the teeth. It's usually caused by a combination of factors: bacteria, sugary foods or drinks, poor oral hygiene, and a lack of fluoride. Initially, it might not cause symptoms, but as it progresses, you might experience toothache, sensitivity, visible holes in the teeth, or staining. Treatment involves removing the decayed portion and filling the cavity to prevent further damage. Preventing tooth decay involves regular brushing, flossing, a balanced diet, and dental check-ups.
